Someone recently asked me about the somewhat strange name of the blog. The answer has two parts, a funny part and a serious part. To get your attention I will tell you the funny part first in the form of a Youtube video:
* This video was a commercial for Planet Fitness, which ran a series of ads a number years back with the premise that weird people may work out at other gyms, but Planet Fitness was a place for the "normal" everyday people just looking to work out. *
First of all, for some reason I found this commercial hilarious.
Secondly, I've come to the conclusion that I would probably like to work out with that guy...and this is the part where it gets serious, so get ready...
I understand that in the commercial they were taking a weirdly dressed, strong dude who they portray as dumb, loud and overly-excited but here's the thing: I'm just like that guy. I may not vocalize it, but there are plenty of times I master some trivial move in the weight room or gym that the more experienced lifters have been doing for years...and yes, I get just as excited as that guy in the commercial about something that may be as natural for some as tying their shoes. The reason I would like to work out with that guy, is that that kind of excitement about the simple things, to put it simply, makes me excited. Being in the weight room with certain people lifting certain ways either gives me a lot of energy or it can really drain me. There's a certain spirit in there every day (different on different days), and it's made up of the type of people that are in there and the attitude they take in there with them.
Bunny Ears, to me, is about tackling the simple things, breaking them down step by step, mastering them, and then getting really excited about it. No matter how many years I end up lifting or how advanced my technique gets, I hope I will always, always remember that.
